Start with the real price

Genuine Jaeger-LeCoultre watches start near $7,000 at US retail and pass $40,000. A Reverso Classic Medium Thin lists above $8,000. A Master Ultra Thin Moon lists above $13,000. Authorized dealers discount little, and no wholesale channel sells new genuine JLC at half price. Any listing between $50 and $1,300 is a counterfeit.

Price bands for replicas

Replica listings cluster in three bands.

  • Entry, $50 to $180: quartz or low-grade automatic movement, mineral glass, printed dial, plated case. Reverso copies at this level often have a fixed case with no working flip.
  • Mid, $200 to $450: Miyota 9015 or Seagull ST18 automatic, sapphire crystal, 316L steel case, 40 to 42 hour power reserve.
  • Top, $500 to $1,300: sellers use the term super clone. The movement is a stock caliber with engraved and decorated plates. Case dimensions sit closer to the genuine model.

Anything above $1,500 is a padded margin, not better hardware.

What drives the number

  • Movement: a stock Miyota 9015 costs a seller about $40 at wholesale.
  • Case metal: solid gold replicas exist but most are gold plated steel. A steel Reverso copy weighs 60 to 80 grams on a scale.
  • Complications: a true swivel carriage and a working moonphase add cost. A printed moon disc does not.
  • Factory claims: sellers quote factory codes. The codes change and no registry verifies them.
  • Payment: crypto and wire carry no chargeback. Few card processors accept replica sales.

Checks before you pay

  1. Measure the case. A genuine Master Ultra Thin Moon is 39 mm wide. Replica cases run 1 to 2 mm thicker on calipers.
  2. Test the power reserve. JLC caliber 925 runs 70 hours. A Miyota 9015 stops at 42 hours.
  3. Flip the Reverso carriage. It should rotate on a machined pivot with no side play.
  4. Request a timestamped video. Replica sites lift still photos from auction and marketplace listings.
  5. Get water resistance claims in writing. Plated cases and unsealed crowns leak.

Risks and pitfalls

  • Seizure: US Customs can seize counterfeit imports. Personal-use rules do not cover counterfeits.
  • No service: most independent watchmakers turn down counterfeit work. JLC will not service or authenticate a fake.
  • Resale: near zero. Auction houses and dealers do not take them.
  • Site churn: replica domains rotate every few months. A warranty from a closed site is worth nothing.
  • Legal exposure: trafficking in counterfeit goods is a federal crime in the US.

Bottom line

Budget $200 to $450 for a mid-tier replica or $500 to $1,300 for a top-tier one. Treat prices outside those bands with suspicion. Compare the stated movement and case size to the genuine spec sheet. If the seller cannot name the movement and the case diameter, do not buy.
