"Fake Omega Master Co-Axial 1848" is a search phrase, not a watch model. Omega sells no watch with that name. The phrase joins the company's founding year, a movement family, and the word "fake."

Louis Brandt started Omega in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848. Omega stamps "1848" on casebacks and dials of some models as a founding-year mark. The number also appears on the Seamaster 1948 Limited Edition, released in 2018 in 1,948 pieces per version.
Master Co-Axial
Co-Axial is an escapement design George Daniels patented in 1974 and licensed to Omega in 1999. Omega added "Master" in 2013 for movements rated to 15,000 gauss. From 2015 Omega used the name Master Chronometer for movements certified by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. METAS runs eight tests over 10 days, including exposure to a 15,000 gauss field and rate limits of 0 to +5 seconds per day.
"Fake"
Replica sellers use the full phrase because buyers search it. A listing that reads "Master Co-Axial 1848" copies three words from genuine marketing copy.
What replica versions contain
- Movement: most replicas in this price range use a Seagull, Miyota or generic Chinese movement with a standard lever escapement. A true co-axial escapement has a three-level co-axial wheel and a specific pallet fork. Replica photos seldom show the escapement itself.
- Certification: no METAS card. Every METAS certificate carries the movement serial number and can be checked against the test record.
- Serial number: Omega services watches by serial and reference. Replicas reuse numbers copied from photos of genuine watches.
- Caseback text: engraving depth, font and spacing differ. A genuine 1848 mark sits at a set depth and aligns with the case center.
- Materials: 316L steel on most replicas against 904L steel or gold on genuine references. Weight differs by 20 to 40 grams.
Checks before buying
- Find the reference number, for example 511.13.38.20.02.001, and compare case size, dial layout and movement number.
- Ask for the METAS card and the movement serial.
- Request the serial on the caseback and the serial on the movement. They match on Omega watches from 2000 onward.
- Check the anti-reflective coating. Omega uses a double-sided coating. It shows a blue hue at an angle.
- Weigh the watch. Steel Omega Master Chronometer references on a bracelet run from 130 to 190 grams.
Legal status in the US
US Customs and Border Protection seizes counterfeit watches at import. The personal-use exemption in 19 CFR 148.55 does not cover goods with counterfeit trademarks. Trafficking in counterfeit goods carries up to 10 years for a first offense under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Civil claims fall under 15 U.S.C. 1114. Resale is a separate offense from purchase.
