Short answer

Omega offered the Constellation in a 38 mm case size through the 2010s. Replica versions sell in three bands: about $140 to $200, $250 to $400, and $450 to $650. The low band runs quartz. The middle band runs a 2824-type automatic under a decorative plate. The top band copies the case profile and bracelet finish. None of them use a twin-barrel calibre 8500.

What the 38 mm Constellation is

Steel 38 mm models use reference numbers with a 123.10.38 prefix. Dial and bracelet options change the suffix. Omega lists the case at 38 mm across, crown excluded. The men's Constellation of that period ran calibre 8500 or 8501: two barrels, 39 jewels, 25,200 vibrations per hour, 60-hour power reserve. The escapement is Co-Axial. METAS Master Chronometer certification came later, on other references. The 38 mm generation does not carry it.

Replica tiers

  • Under $150. Quartz movement. Plated case. Printed case back. Bezel claws are cast, not milled.
  • $250 to $400. Automatic 2824 or ST2130 clone. Sapphire crystal. Movement plate engraved with Co-Axial text.
  • $450 to $650. Better case polishing. Correct 38 mm diameter. Clasp closer to the Omega shape. The movement is still not an 8500.

Constellation replicas get less factory attention than the Seamaster 300M or the Speedmaster. Supply is thin. Most sellers list 39 mm and 41 mm instead.

Tells on the case and dial

  • Beat rate. Calibre 8500 runs at 25,200 vph. A 2824 clone runs at 28,800 vph. A slow-motion phone video shows the difference.
  • Bezel claws. The claws sit in pairs at 3 and 9. Genuine claws are polished and sit flush. Replica claws show soft edges.
  • Case back. The steel case back carries an engraved observatory medallion with a star. Genuine stamps show sharp relief. Replica etching looks shallow and flat.
  • Dial. Many 38 mm dials have a textured finish. Replica dials lose that texture under a loupe.
  • Crystal. Omega fits sapphire with anti-reflective coating on both faces. Replica crystals show a blue tint at an angle.
  • Bracelet. Interlinks are polished. The clasp carries a signed push-button release. Replica clasps have soft engraving and a loose fit.

Checks before payment

  1. Ask for the movement caliber and beat rate in writing.
  2. Ask for weight in grams on the bracelet.
  3. Ask for a photo of the case back with a dated note in frame.
  4. Ask for a pressure test result. A stated 100 m rating means nothing without one.
  5. Ask about the return window and who pays return shipping.

What no replica delivers

No replica carries METAS certification. No replica carries an Omega service history. Resale value sits near zero. Many independent watchmakers decline to service counterfeit movements. Parts for a 2824 clone are easy to find. Parts for a decorative plate movement are not. Exact case thickness figures for each 38 mm reference are not published by Omega in one place, so measure the seller's sample if thickness matters to you.
