Quick answer
IWC has never sold a watch named "Aquatimer Deep Time." Sellers use that phrase for copies of the Aquatimer Deep Two (ref. IW3547, 2009) or the Aquatimer Deep Three (ref. IW3557, 2014). Both have a mechanical depth gauge. No replica on the market reproduces that gauge as a working instrument. Buyers get the case size, the dial layout, and the look. They do not get the depth function.
Genuine references and specs
- Deep Two, ref. IW3547: steel case, 46 mm wide, about 15.5 mm thick, water resistance 120 m, IWC calibre 30110, 42 hour power reserve.
- Deep Three, ref. IW3557: titanium case, 46 mm wide, water resistance 100 m, depth gauge scale at 9 o'clock, IWC calibre 30120, 42 hour power reserve.
- Both gauges use a red hand that stays at the deepest point reached. A pusher resets it to zero.
What replicas deliver
Case diameter and thickness track the original within about 0.5 mm on the better copies. Weight differs. A titanium Deep Three weighs less than a steel case of the same size, near 30 grams less. Most replicas use 316L steel for both versions, so a "titanium" copy feels heavier than the real thing in the hand.
The depth gauge is the tell. On originals, the red hand moves as pressure rises at the sensor port. On replicas, that hand is fixed or driven by a dummy lever behind the case. Water resistance is not tested. Sellers print 30 m to 50 m on the listing. Do not swim with it.
Crystal, dial, and movement
Originals use sapphire with an anti-reflective coating on both faces. Good replicas use sapphire on the front and mineral glass on the caseback. Coating quality shows under a lamp: original dials stay dark, cheap copies wash out grey.
Engines: most copies run a Seagull ST16, a Miyota 9015, or a clone of the ETA 2892. Power reserve lands between 38 and 42 hours. Accuracy runs plus or minus 10 to 20 seconds a day in this price band.
Price bands
- $80 to $150: mineral glass, fixed gauge hand, printed markers.
- $250 to $450: sapphire crystal, applied markers, Miyota or ST16 movement.
- $600 and up: decorated rotor, finer case brushing, still no working gauge.
Checks before you buy
- Ask for case diameter in millimeters and weight in grams.
- Ask if the depth hand moves and how it resets.
- Request photos of the crown guard and the gauge bezel at 9 o'clock.
- Confirm the return window in writing.
No IWC authorized dealer services replica watches. The gauge module parts are not sold to the public. Repair options stay with the seller.
